Spurs Striker Targets Series - 5

In the fifth of a series of posts we take a look at some of the targets Tottenham have been recently evaluation as we seek a replacement to add goals to our front line. Any purchases depend upon player sales and being able to clear a non-home grown player slot in the squad, as we have no places available at the moment.

Teofilo Gutierrez is a Colombian striker we have been watching playing for top Argentine side River Plate.

As you can see 69 goals in 162 games with 15 assists is not a lot for a 29-year-old, which will mean he is cheap. Prior to this he had scored 63 goals in 121 games at Barranquilla and Junior Barranquilla in Columbia. That takes him to a total of 132 goals in 283 games, a good strike rate but it's a bit late to be swapping continents.

He is reported as being a bit in the Mario Balotelli madness camp but £5 million, if that, is cheap for a striker these days., however it is reported hat he failed to adapt to a new country, Turkey and a new style of football when he went there in 2010. He left Turkey without permission claiming health issues, but none were found so there would surely be too many risks bringing him to England.

He has 14 goals in 37 games for Colombia and has scored 10 goals in 13 games, a goal every 101 minutes, in the Argentine league, Torneo Inicial, this season. He stands 1,78m (5ft 10in) tall

For me he would be a surprise as he only just seems to have got his goalscoring act together and has no experience of the Premier League. I'd be worried about his mental state dealing with a new country if he is as mad as he is made out to be and River Plate are wishing to keep hold of him their president recently said.
