Tottenham bid for German goalkeeper

Tottenham need another goalkeeper for next season, we have scouted 23-year-old Australian international keeper Mathew Ryan of Club Brugge. There is little point in him becoming a number three at this stage of his career so he would be unlikely.

Tottenham have instead turned to a 34-year-old (35 in August) German international currently playing in the Bundesliga for Borussia Dortmund, Roman Weidenfeller.

Dortmund have three keepers all currently wanting to be the number one, 26-year-old Australian international Mitch Langerak, 24-year-old Swiss international Roman Bürki, who only signed from Feirburg a few days ago and Weidenfeller.

German newspaper Bild report that Weidenfeller is seeking talks with Dortmund as to his future, he wants assurances that he will be the number one next season amid interest from other clubs. The paper claim we are invojved in a bidding war, a lovely journalistic phrase that evokes thoughts of something that rarely actually happens in transfers.

Spanish side Valencia, who have lost goalkeeper Diego Alves to a long term injury and fellow Bundesliga outfit Stuttgart, who may lose their own number one Sven Ulreich, are said to be after his services

Given his age and our recent policy of signing an experienced keeper as back-up and the fact we now play with a sweeper keeper, you would have thought we were looking at him as a number three, It's doubtful he would want to fulfil that role though so our interest is a surprise. If we were seeking a number one surely we would want a younger keeper with Michel Vorm not looking as if he is comfortable coming out of his goal to sweep, is Weidenfeller?

We certainly won't be involved in a bidding war though, we value players ourselves, try to get them cheaper and don't go above our valuation, a valuation that Mauricio Pochettino is part of deciding.
