Every window the lazy press link us with ......

Every window Tottenham are linked with a South American, you won't need more than two guesses, no not Leandro Damiao, that was a previous head coach, but Fredy Guarín.

He seems to be the one player in the world who is permanently for sale and permanently at the same club, Inter. Not a window goes by when some website or newspaper has to try to link us to him even though he doesn't fit the criteria of our transfer strategy.

Guarín is 29 (30 next June) and we are interested in players 27 and under unless they are special. The entire reasoning for the story this time is that we have sold Lewis Holtby, Étienne Capoue, Paulinho and Benjamin Stambouli. If you look at their game time in the Premier League though (0 - 897 - 304 - 469) it totals 1,670 minutes, that#s just 18.56 full games.

If you take into account their contribution during those games then you could easily argue that Tom Carroll could have done equally as well. With Carroll and Dele Alli coming into the squad as central midfielders to join Ryan Mason, Nabil Bentaleb and Mousa Dembélé we could really do with an experienced or high-quality player, as long as they fit our style, coming in.

I'm not sure Fredy Guarín is that man. He is a decent player yes, but his age is against him, he has no Premier League experience and only played 4 games last season as a defensive midfielder. He is versatile and can play in a number of positions in midfield, but his tackling is graded as poor,  an offensive rather than defensive central midfielder.

Inter have always wanted too much for the player and plenty of clubs have made informal bids, but none has ever come to anything. I'd be surprised if we are even interested in him given we have a new recruitment team with new criteria and new objectives. This sound like lazy rehashing of an old story.
