Njie is a centre-forward not a wide man

Tottenham fans are doing what they like to do best, be up in arms moaning and groaning, we blew the Bale money spending big and bad, so low and behold fans are screaming for the same to happen, what a fickle bunch.



Let's get one thing clear, Tottenham do not have one striker, we signed one this window, Saido Berahino was to be the third. For some reason there is this misconception that Clinton Njie is a wide player, well he's not, he primarily plays up front and his secondary position is as a wide attacker behind a lone striker.

Clinton Njie played 1,504 minutes in Ligue 1 last season. He started 13 games as a centre-forward, 972 minutes. He started 1 single game as a wide player, a total of just 82 minutes.

CF - 13 games, 972 minutes
LW/RW - 1 game, 82 minutes

He was a substitute for 15 games, 398 minutes and if you look at those games you'll find he came on as a forward generally. He is the understudy to Harry Kane at the moment, we do not just have the one striker. Didn't a certain Gareth Bale double up as a substitute striker when Spurs fans were moaning we had no attackers, he did pretty well I thought, if he keeps at it he might make it one day.

To suggest we only have one striker is simply not true, I would grant you the situation is not ideal, but neither is it as bleak as it is being portrayed either.

  3. What a ridiculous statement, Levy wasnt offering 20+mil for a striker to be 3rd choice, and West Brom knew that all day long which is why they won the poker game and Levy has made us all a laughing stock trying to play a big man game that backfired massively.

  6. Poch obviously sees N'Jie as back up to Kane, and will play Chadli and Lamela as CFs' if desperate. Chadli has the size to play the role but needs to improve his hold up play. Son is competition for Eriksen at number 10. Regarding defensive mid, he probably held onto Fazio because he sees Dier as a MF now. If he gets injured or his form really drops away, he has the option of moving Alderwereld to DM and pairing Wimmer or Fazio with Vertongen. Still, by not signing an experienced DMF he has left us very vulnerable to injury/suspension. With such a lack of depth, can only think the plan is to throw the Europa League and maybe have a go in the cups. Top 4 is very unlikely and top 6 far from assured. But its a work in progress with money being saved for he new stadium, Spurs cant have it all. COYS!!
