Spurs eyeing emotional German U21 player

The 19-years-old (20 in October) right-footed midfielder, who can also play in either wide attacking role, is German born and under contract to Hoffenheim until 2018. He helped them to a 15th placed finish in the Bundesliga with 4 goals and 4 assists in 25 appearances, 1,459 minutes, the equivalent of 16.21 full games. The German Under-21 international netted against Borussia Monchengladbach (4th), Mainz 05 (6th), Ingolstadt (11th) and Eintracht Frankfurt (16th) with assists against Hertha Berlin (7th), Stuttgart (17th) and two against Borussia Monchengladbach (4th).
Statistically he had a hand in more goals than all but one Hoffenheim player, not bad for a player making his Bundesliga debut this season, a debut that yielded 1 goal and 2 assists against the side who finished the season in 4th place and looked in total control of the game until his arrival. His coach for the last season Huub Stevens, a former Dutch footballer, said he was their 'only creative midfielder this season'.
Naturally Hoffenheim are keen to keep him, his value will only rise and they'll make more profit if they develop him further themselves. He will get plenty of starts in a poor side whereas he would struggle to make a start in the Premier League perhaps with Christian Eriksen or Erik Lamela in his way.
The German media describe him as a street footballer, strong and brave and his coach has given him liscence to do what he wants in games.
The next step is how he develops, will he be a player who does his own thing and doesn't take instruction well, like Andros Townsend, or will he be able to express himself within a system role like Christian Eriksen can. His coach reveals he is an emotional player "we know he lives by his emotions" so his career could go either way. Technically excellent with good dribbling skills, his mental ability to buckle down and make himself consistent will be the next hurdle. Until then he will flit in and out of games and frustrate.
