Were Spurs scouting Hungarian winger Dzsudzsák?

Tottenham have been casting the scouting net far and wide. I have brought you news of a tall Norwegian to a little Dutchman, we've taken in Belgium, Portugal, Spain, France, Germany along the way as well as bringing you news of South Americans.

International matches have too provided us with opportunities to scout and one such international took place recently which we had a scout at. That was Finland vs Hungary, it finished 0-1 but we were not the only club there, Tim Sherwood's Aston Villa were there, as were our perennial scouting companions Liverpool, together with Fulham, Hertha Berlin (Germany), Fortuna Dusseldorf (Germany) and Rosenburg (Austria). Italian side Lazio are said to be trying to buy him along with Liverpool and Everton tried last year.

Also in attendance were a new side Atlanta (USA), a soccer franchise planning to join Major League Soccer (MLS) in 2017. They were announced as an expansion side by the league on April 16, 2014.

Atlanta may well have had different targets that us and I can't be certain who we were watching but I believe it may well have been 28-year-old (29 in December) Balázs Dzsudzsák. The Hungarian international plays for Russian Premier Liga side Dynamo Moscow, after joining them from Anzhi Makhachkala in January 2012 for £16.72 million (US$26.31m - AUS$34.26m - €23.35m).

Dzsudzsák is a left-footed winger who is out of contract at the end of the year, the same situation as 28-year-old Luiz Adriano, the Brazilian striker at Shakhtar Donetsk I wrote about recently. He can play on either wing, has 69 international caps, scoring 17 goals and has captained his country. He started his senior career at Debrecen, before moving to PSV Eindhoven and then Anzhi Makhachkala in the summer of 2011.

He may be over our preferred age but he is out of contract soon and that makes him of interest, any time you can pick up a decent player cheaply you have to have at least a look to see if they can do a job for you.

Dzsudzsák statistics show 19 games, plus 10 substitute appearances in the league, totalling 1,752 minutes, the equivalent to 19.46 full games. In addition he has played 8 UEFA Europa League games and a further one as a substitute.

A fair comparison with our current wide attackers, they aren't really wingers, would be the UEFA Europa League. Nacer Chadli only played two and a half games so his figures are perhaps not a good comparison. Iv'e put them below anyway but have compared the remaining trio and Dzsudzsák comes out of it well.

As we can see he plays the ball forward a lot, compares favourably with Lamela for the time it takes to make a key pass, creates a chance more often, is more accurate in the shot, wins more tackles but is rather poor when taking on an opponent.

Dzsudzsák could be a cheap but effective option for the short-term, his wages are rumoured to be £44,000-a-week (US$26.31m - AUS$34.26m - €23.35m), while Alex Pritchard continues to develop in the Europa League next season.
