Have Spurs officials have flown to Brazil?
Tottenham are busy on two fronts it seems, at last in the striker department anyway and word reaches me that Spurs officials have flown to Brazil.
WBA have turned down our payment options for Saido Berahino, who most definitely wants to join Spurs. The word coming out the club is that we will be having one last go to get him and that if we do sign him Tony Pulis will try to sign Charlie Austin, who nobody has been prepared to pay the QPR asking price of £15-million for.
Just because we are trying to sign Barahino does not mean we are not active elsewhere. We do a lot of background work in preparation for this time of year, we have options that have already been discussed with players and agents, but of course there are more than one club after each player so nothing is ever certain. What fans can be sure of is we don't just pluck a name out of the hat and go to sign them, it may seem like that when we make a deadline day signing that has hardly been mentioned before, but the homework and hard work has already taken place behind the scenes.
I have discussed PR from managers and clubs recently, positioning themselves to be the innocent party and doing everything they can to keep players etc, which is on many occasions just to keep fans onside. That is a lot easier to read over here as translated quotes get interpreted in different ways and in South America players often don't have much of a say in where they play.
His agent, Giuliano Bertolucci, was reported to have flown to London to discuss the potential deal and I have now heard from two sources that Tottenham officials have flown to Brazil. I must stress I have had no confirmation of that from Brazil though. If we are unable to get Berahino then we'll have men on hand to sign Pato.
We have of course been here before with Brazilians, this one doesn't sound any easier to pull off with Sao Paulo fighting to keep him and threatening legal action if he is sold by Corinthians.
